Anonymous website analytics

Understand what happens on a website without recognising people.

wayfold shows which pages are viewed during a short visit. Analytics sets no cookies and stores no identifier in your browser. Separate visits are not joined into a lasting profile.

How it works

Enough context for useful analytics. Clear boundaries against recognition.

Technical collection details
01

A short-lived session begins

The browser keeps only a random document ID in memory. Public wayfold analytics writes neither cookies nor a session ID to sessionStorage or localStorage.

02

Only enabled signals are collected

The website decides whether page views, paths, scroll thresholds, sanitised events, or aggregate heatmaps are collected. Categories that are not enabled stay off in the browser.

03

Separate sessions stay separate

Ingestion connects requests only through short-lived rotating HMAC aliases. A new session starts after 30 minutes of inactivity or eight hours at the latest; IP and user agent are neither stored nor retained as member hashes.

What can be measured

Minimised usage signals

  • Viewed pages and their order within the same visit
  • Optionally enabled coarse scroll and interaction signals
  • Sanitised form and custom events without input fields or contents
  • Aggregate heatmap cells instead of pointer trails or screen recordings
  • Estimated daily reach from an HLL sketch with disclosed statistical uncertainty

What stays out

No foundation for visitor profiles

  • Names, email addresses, contact details, and form contents
  • Cookies or other persistent visitor identifiers
  • IP addresses and full user agents in analytics data
  • Advertising profiles or a cross-visit history of a person
  • Member lists, visitor hashes, or a database of counted people

The honest boundary

Privacy minimisation is an architecture, not a blanket legal promise.

wayfold deliberately reduces identifiability and prevents persistent recognition by product design. Whether analytics data is legally anonymous or personal in a specific context still depends on use, jurisdiction, and configuration. The website operator remains responsible for the legal basis and transparent notice.

Transparency and opt-out

wayfold shows no proactive banner of its own. An optional privacy panel explains anonymous analytics and offers an opt-out at any time; Global Privacy Control is honoured. Sites that need or prefer an external CMP can keep wayfold fully blocked until it grants access.
